The Room Beyond

This painting is all about perspective and the view into a second space. I really wanted to capture that feeling of looking through a home, where one cosy corner opens up into another sunlit room. It gave me a chance to build up layers of depth, using the massive, built-in bookshelf and doorways to frame the view.

I chose a beautiful, calm sky-blue for the main library walls and floor-to-ceiling shelving, which naturally draws your eye to the warmer, sun-bleached timber floors and the neutral, golden tones of the room beyond.

Created with gouache and pen on watercolour paper, this original artwork is full of tiny hand-drawn details and layered textures.
